Online perfume stores generally have a much larger selection and significantly cheaper prices. Due to the incredible savings you will get buying perfume from an online store you may ask yourself “how do I tell if I bought authentic perfume.” There are a few ways to protect yourself from purchasing a cheap knockoff of your favorite fragrance.

Perfumers spend years working on and developing the finest fragrances. One way that you can tell if you bought authentic perfume is by testing the quality of the perfume. Imitation perfumes will not smell as good as the authentic perfume. Counterfeit perfumes will also lose their fragrance much more quickly then their authentic counterparts. Often they will become pungent after only a few hours. If the perfume that you bought does not last long, smell the way it should or becomes pungent after a few hours chances are it is a fake. It is estimated that roughly 10% of all perfumes and toiletries on the market are fakes.

Fake perfumes also may contain dangerous chemicals in place of authentic ingredients. These inferior ingredients may cause allergic reactions to people that have sensitive skin. If you are having a bad reaction to the perfume that you bought online when you never did before there is a good chance that it is a cheap imitation. Another way to tell if you bought authentic perfume is by checking its quality on your clothing. The cheap knock off imitation perfumes can stain your clothing due to the inferior chemicals that they use. If you notice a stain on your clothing after applying your perfume chances are the fragrance is a fake. Also check the packaging and the labels and logos for additional clues as to whether your fragrance is authentic.

A good way to be sure that the perfume you buy is authentic is to only purchase your discount perfumes from reputable perfume dealers. Look for dealers who offer money back guarantees or return policies and read any available feedback you can about the vendor.

What are the safety concerns using teeth whitening strips? http://blog.skinxpert.com/what-are-the-safety-concerns-using-teeth-whitening-strips/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/what-are-the-safety-concerns-using-teeth-whitening-strips/#comments Mon, 24 Nov 2008 20:04:57 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/?p=272 whitening strips concernsTeeth whitening strips are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration, unlike tray systems. The active whitening agent is hydrogen peroxide in teeth whitening strips, whereas the tray system uses carbamide peroxide. Although hydrogen peroxide is much harsher than carbamide, there is no evidence that it can cause damage to your teeth when used correctly. Even though the government doesn’t regulate teeth whitening kits, there are studies done by individual companies to determine the efficacy and safety concerns that might be relevant for their products.

Bleaching Agents

Hydrogen peroxide is a bleaching agent that can cause tooth sensitivity and gum irritation. You have to check individual studies for name brand teeth whitening strips to figure out what the safety concerns might be for that product. The studies that are done do check for changes in the enamel to makes sure they are safe to use. Since popular brands are sure to have a study, one should try the major brand first and avoid any generic product that hasn’t been tested by anyone.

Prior Dental Work

One item that is important when deciding to use whitening strips is what type of dental work you might already have had done. There are studies that indicate that using the strips can cause white dental fillings to have microscopic roughness. Whether that can later cause a deterioration of your white dental work is probably dependent on the how long you use the product and how heavy the concentration of hydrogen peroxide, as well as the quality of your dental work. You also may not see the same level of brightening on white dental work as you do with the natural tooth material. There are also some studies that indicate that hydrogen peroxide can cause an elevated release rate of mercury from metal fillings. This is usually noticed more in newer fillings than one that have been well set for many years. Check with your dentist to see how safe it is to use a whitening product with any existing dental work first.

How do I get rid of old acne scars? http://blog.skinxpert.com/how-to-get-rid-of-old-acne-scars/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/how-to-get-rid-of-old-acne-scars/#comments Tue, 14 Oct 2008 02:40:43 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/how-to-get-rid-of-old-acne-scars/ how to remove old acne scarsAcne affects a lot people and in many instances causes scarring that can last for a lifetime. Bad acne can result in heavily pockmarked skin that can lead to insecurities and embarrassment. Many people ask in frustration and despair, how do I get rid of old acne scars? Well don’t despair, there are a few things that can be done to get rid of those old acne scars and have clear smooth skin.

There are actually a variety of treatments available to help anyone who is wondering how to get rid of old acne scars. Chemical peels, dermabrasion and laser treatments are a few options available through your local dermatologist. Before taking any action toward getting rid of your old acne scars see a dermatologist who can help you understand your options and discuss any concerns that you may have about your acne scars. Your dermatologist can also show you before and after pictures of acne scars as a result of treatments to help you better decide which treatment is right for you.

Chemical peels are one method to get rid of old acne scars that uses chemicals that are applied onto the skins surface. This causes the top layer of skin to blister and peel off in after a couple of days leaving a new layer of skin underneath. Chemical peels are most effective for shallow depressed scars and it usually takes several sessions to get the desired results. Chemical peels can also get rid of any current acne problems.

Dermabrasions are another method to deal with how to get rid of old acne scars. This process rubs off the surface layer of skin using a rotating brush head similar to sandpaper. This is also most beneficial for helping with minor scarring as only the top layer of the skin is removed.

Laser treatment is very effective to help get rid of old acne scars. A CO2 or YAG laser will remove layers of skin which improves the scar areas. The Fraxel laser is also available to treat deeper more severe acne scars to give skin a healthier overall appearance. If you have struggled with the question of how to get rid of old acne scars one of these methods might work for you.

What is the shelf life of skin care products? http://blog.skinxpert.com/what-is-the-shelf-life-of-skin-care-products/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/what-is-the-shelf-life-of-skin-care-products/#comments Sat, 23 Aug 2008 00:59:58 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/what-is-the-shelf-life-of-skin-care-products/ Advanced Wrinkle TherapyEvery product is different, and every shelf life is different, so the answer to this question varies and is based on several factors. First, has product been opened? Depending on how they are sealed, unopened skin care products have (or ought to have) a long shelf life. But at the same time, you don’t want products that have been on the shelf forever. Opened, it is really anyone’s guess how long a product will last without losing its potency. Second, has the product been exposed to heat or sunlight? This can dramatically decrease the life of product.

Products in tubes tend to have a lower rate of bacterial infestation products that come in jars. With jars, you are usually putting your bare fingers in each time to get out product, which may allow a lot of bacteria to enter the cream or lotion. Even though many companies provide a spatula or some type of applicator, I don’t know if anyone really uses them. In general, your opened skin care products should last at least six months to a year or even more.

Sunscreen is different. It is recommended to throw away any sun product after a year as You want the potency of these sun protective products to be at their peak. There is no way for the consumer to test sunscreens to make sure they are still potent and therefore actively helping You to protect from UV radiation.

How can I tell if my products have gone bad? How long do products last?

Just like food, organic ingredients in skin care products do go bad and will let you know by emitting an unpleasant odor. The more organic and natural the ingredients are in a product, the more likely it will go bad at some point. This also depends on the preservatives used and if your product has been exposed to heat or direct sunlight over a period of time. So if a product smells funny, rancid, or in any other way “bad,” it is not the best idea to use it anymore.

How Women in Africa Take Care of their Skin http://blog.skinxpert.com/how-women-in-africa-take-care-of-their-skin/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/how-women-in-africa-take-care-of-their-skin/#comments Mon, 14 Jul 2008 02:14:36 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/how-women-in-africa-take-care-of-their-skin/ If you’re noticing more wrinkles than you’d like, perhaps you need to turn to someone else for advice. Women in Africa are known for their smooth and flat skin, even though they’re located in a dry and arid continent with plenty of sun exposure. What is their secret? Nature, of course. By relying on what nature has to offer, African skin can maintain its luster. And you can too.

The first secret weapon that African women use is cocoa butter. Not only can this natural ingredient help to soothe and protect dry skin, but it can also help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and stretch marks. You can also apply cocoa butter to the surface of a pimple and reduce the severity of redness and of the size of the pimple itself.

African women have also found that essential oils can change their skin dramatically as well. Oils like frankincense, myrrh, and rose can be used in conjunction with carrier oils to soothe flaky skin as well as to prevent skin damage and wrinkles. Not only do they smell wonderful, but they are also naturally derived so there is little chance of these oils negatively affecting sensitive skin.

Women in Africa tend to focus on using oils for everything related to skin care, which seems contradictory to many people. But when you use natural oils on your skin, they can actually cleanse the surface, treat problems, and prevent aging signs in your skin. In addition, these oils are low cost and easy to find, making them the perfect skin care product.

Avocado oil is another trick to keeping African skin smooth and soft. You can actually use avocado paste on your own at home or find the actual oil to soothe your skin woes.

Most Popular Dermatologist Treatments http://blog.skinxpert.com/most-popular-dermatologist-treatments/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/most-popular-dermatologist-treatments/#comments Wed, 14 May 2008 20:41:57 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/most-popular-dermatologist-treatments/ When it comes to skin, people will pay anything to look younger than they actually are. Women and men are turning to dermatologists to help them reduce the effects of time, but some treatments are more popular than others.

Botox is still getting a lot of press for those with deeper set wrinkles and creases. By paralyzing the muscles in the face, the skin appears smooth for months at a time. While you have to go back for touchups, both men and women can benefit from this treatment. Some patients have also reported that they have fewer headaches as a result of the Botox injections – and research is showing that this might be beneficial to those suffering from migraines. It’s a simple treatment that can be done over lunch with minimal side effects.

Restylane is another line and wrinkle filler that can help patients look fresher and younger. In addition, this injection can also be used in lips to help promote fuller lips. Again, the injections need to be repeated every few months, but this is a small price to pay for fuller lips and smoother skin within hours with little recuperation.

An even simpler practice is dermabrasion and microdermabrasion. Just as the names suggest, these practices involve removing a thin layer of the skin in order to reveal the younger, tighter skin underneath. By simply smoothing away this dull skin, you can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, while also enhancing your natural glow. You can also find home treatment kits for performing your own microdermabrasion with great success.

In addition, dermatologists are still recommending the use of Retin A to help with deep set lines as well as to help remove dull skin cells. Though you need a prescription for this medication, it’s been proven time and time again as an effective weapon in the fight against aging.

How effective are teeth whitening strips? http://blog.skinxpert.com/how-effective-are-teeth-whitening-strips/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/how-effective-are-teeth-whitening-strips/#comments Thu, 08 May 2008 00:49:29 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/how-effective-are-teeth-whitening-strips/ Teeth whitening strips are a very effective way to whiten your teeth. They are the next best things to getting professional teeth whitening from a dentist. The products themselves state that you can whiten your teeth one or two shades using them, right in the comfort of your own home. However, this may depend on the type of staining a person has on their teeth or what their perception of different shades of white are on their teeth. Teeth staining caused by antibiotic use as a child will generally not lighten, but coffee and smoke stains will lighten.

Uneven Application and Concentrations

Although, strips are generally a good product, they are not custom-fitted to your mouth like trays. The polyethylene strips are somewhat rigid and can make it difficult to get the product into the crevices of the teeth. The part of the enamel that is in more contact with the product will whiten significantly more than other areas that may be hard to reach.

Another thing to consider is the concentration of the whitening agent. Some strips have only 6% hydrogen peroxide and others have 10%. You can get faster results with the 10%, but they don’t necessarily whiten your teeth more than the 6% product because it’s still hydrogen peroxide. If you use the 6% product for a longer period of time, like the recommend, you can get similar results. So, the 10% may appear to work better, but actually it works faster.

Not Total Coverage

If you are looking for a product that whitens all your teeth, then the strips won’t do it. They are only for the top front and lower bottom teeth that you see when you smile. The trays are used to whiten all teeth, but you have to get fitted for one by a dentist and they are more expensive than the strips.

What Should I Eat / Drink to Keep My Complexion Healthy? http://blog.skinxpert.com/what-should-i-eat-drink-to-keep-my-complexion-healthy/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/what-should-i-eat-drink-to-keep-my-complexion-healthy/#comments Mon, 05 May 2008 20:04:00 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/what-should-i-eat-drink-to-keep-my-complexion-healthy/ If only there were a magic pill to help keep your skin looking as healthy as possible. Or is there? What many people don’t realize is that your skin is actually a canvas upon which your everyday habits can be seen. If you don’t eat right or drink the right liquids, you may be causing more harm to your skin than you realize. Here are some of the foods and drinks you should add to your diet in order to start glowing.

First of all, your body is made of 75% water, so it’s no surprise that facialists and dermatologists will recommend chugging more water each day to improve your skin. By flushing out the toxins in your body, water helps your skin glow and retain moisture, which can decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

When you fill up that grocery cart, you should be reaching for fruits and vegetables. With their high vitamin and mineral contents, they will allow your skin to rejuvenate itself naturally. Cell repair will be enhanced even further by choosing organic varieties of foods. Organic foods are not processed with chemicals that might damage your skin.

Staying away from sugar is another common tip for those who want to clear up their skin. Though it’s not necessarily going to cause breakouts, researchers have found that sugar can cause cellular damage, which might result in more wrinkles at a younger age.

Eating certain fats is another way to protect the youthful and healthy glow of your complexion. Essential fatty acids like those found in flaxseed and fish are going to help your skin retain moisture, while also helping to fill out wrinkles and creases. Try adding a serving or two of a fatty fish like salmon to your diet each week or take a fish oil supplement.

Why is it important to check Your birthmarks? http://blog.skinxpert.com/why-is-it-important-to-check-your-birthmarks/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/why-is-it-important-to-check-your-birthmarks/#comments Mon, 24 Mar 2008 22:06:51 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/why-is-it-important-to-check-your-birthmarks/ If you were born with a birthmark, it might be more of a nuisance than anything else. When the mark is visible to others, you may feel you need to go to great lengths to cover it up and to hide it from the world. However, if it’s something that’s not visible to others, there may come a time when you barely even think of it. Or should you? Your doctor may recommend that you check your birthmarks from time to time, but why?

Checking your birthmarks is a part of a self skin examination and it has several benefits. First of all, if your skin with the birthmark is exposed to the sun regularly, you may be at a higher risk for skin cancer development. Since the spread of a melanoma may be disguised by a birthmark, you will need to check the color, the shape, and the texture of your birthmark for any changes. If there are changes, you should talk with your doctor to discuss whether they need to be assessed further.

In addition, there are some birthmarks which have a higher risk of developing skin cancers – like congenital melanocytic nevus. By taking a few minutes each week to check this type of birthmark for changes, you can assure yourself that nothing is changing for the worse.

You might also want to check your birthmarks for changes as these can also be signs of internal bruising and bleeding. Since the birthmark might be covering up serious injuries, if you notice any changes – especially after an injury – you will need to speak with your doctor.

Your birthmarks are a special part of who you are, but with this uniqueness comes responsibility. Though they are completely harmless in most cases, these marks can also be covering up a problem.

Are There Ways to Have the Government Pay for your Cosmetic Surgery? http://blog.skinxpert.com/are-there-ways-to-have-the-government-pay-for-your-cosmetic-surgery/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/are-there-ways-to-have-the-government-pay-for-your-cosmetic-surgery/#comments Thu, 21 Feb 2008 18:33:00 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/are-there-ways-to-have-the-government-pay-for-your-cosmetic-surgery/ Surgery is an expensive endeavor, no matter what you’re having done. And when you’re having some sort of plastic surgery, it can be even more so. While many traditional health care insurance plans can cover a part of the bill, government health insurance plans like Medicare and Medicaid are a little different. What you might want to realize is that there are instances in which you can have the government pay for your cosmetic surgery.

If you can prove to the government that your cosmetic surgery is medically necessary, then it’s probable that your bills can be covered. There are specific guidelines that your condition must follow and that your doctor must follow in order to prove the necessity of your surgery. Getting a copy of these guidelines and having a Medicare or Medicaid customer service representative explain them to you is your first step toward getting those bills taken care of.

But the next step is talking with your doctor to see if they also believe the surgery is medically necessary. If they do, they can document this necessity in your medical records, thus building a case for your medical bills to be paid. When your doctor does not agree that the surgery is medically necessary, you might have a harder time getting the government to foot the bill. Also, if you’ve never seen a doctor previously for the condition that you need the plastic surgery for, you may have a hard time establishing the presence of a medical problem that needs to be corrected through surgery.

By taking the time to learn the rules of the government as well as to have the supporting documentation ready for the government to see, you can get those bills covered.

McDonalds Bad for Your Complexion http://blog.skinxpert.com/mcdonalds-bad-for-your-complexion/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/mcdonalds-bad-for-your-complexion/#comments Fri, 08 Feb 2008 20:52:33 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/mcdonalds-bad-for-your-complexion/ We’ve all been told that eating bad foods will cause you to get pimples, but science has refuted that time and time again. But if you’ve been eating fast food like McDonalds and are still noticing pimples and greasy skin, you might want to rethink your diet. Everything you put into your body ends up being excreted through your skin – think about when you eat garlic, for example. With that in mind, are you choosing the best foods for your face?

McDonald’s food is fast and easy, but it can be damaging to your skin in a number of ways:

  • Lack of nutrients – A lack of vitamins and minerals causes your skin regeneration to slow which can cause your skin to appear dull and blotchy.
  • High levels of sugar – Most foods at McDonalds contain some sugar which has been linked to increasing your chances of getting wrinkles and lines.
  • High levels of fat – When you eat fat, it’s hard for your body to break down. The fat grams can be broken down into oils and released through your skin, increasing your chances of oily and shiny skin.
  • High caloric intake – When you eat too many calories, your body needs to expend energy to break them down. The energy that your skin may have needed to look healthy is then utilized by your digestive system and your metabolism instead.
  • Fried foods – Since these foods use a lot of oils to make them crispy, your skin is going to show it.
  • This isn’t to say that there aren’t healthy options at McDonalds, but you do need to choose wisely in order to protect and preserve your skin. Salads and grilled menu items are your best choice for keeping your complexion clear.

Sunburn http://blog.skinxpert.com/sunburn/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/sunburn/#comments Wed, 30 Jan 2008 21:17:01 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/?p=161 sunburnIf you’ve laid down a bit too much on the sun and you think you are experiencing sunburn, first smart thing to do is to visit your dermatologist office. If doctor decides your skin condition is not critical and does not require special treatment you can use our home after-sun repair recipe.

To cool down your burned pinky skin you’ll need to open up your fridge for yogurt. Smearing yogurt on your complexion can help un-burn your damage skin and rebuild the vital pH balance, so it restores faster. Use only plain, full-fat organic yogurt and let it sit on your skin until it warms up, rinse with water. It is good idea to repeat this treatment few times.

It is always better to prevent this unpleasant situation by using appropriate sunscreen. If you have extremely reactive skin try looking for sun blocks based on mineral ingredients such as titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. Dr Hauschka makes exceptionally good mineral based sunscreens.

    Depression and your skin condition http://blog.skinxpert.com/depression-and-your-skin-condition/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/depression-and-your-skin-condition/#comments Thu, 17 Jan 2008 22:04:17 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/?p=151 Depression
When you’re feeling down and out, you can barely look in the mirror, much less try to do anything to improve your appearance. But at a cellular level, your skin is suffering right along with you. As your body becomes depressed, your cells start to slow down, causing a multitude of problems, not the least of which, sallow and unhealthy skin.

As you begin to feel sad, you might start forgetting your skin care routine. You fall asleep without washing your face or applying your favorite lotions and potions. This results in skin damage due to dirt and chemical buildup. You might also begin to eat unhealthy foods (or not eat at all) which can slow down the cellular function and repair for your body.

If your body is depressed, the cells are not functioning at their highest capacity. In order to have healthy skin, there needs to be a constant turnover of skin cells. This way, the dead skin cells are pushed to the surface of the skin, while the newer skin cells emerge and showcase a brighter complexion. If your mind is not healthy, your cells can not turnover as easily as they should, leaving you with a dull appearance.

By taking a few moments to simply drink some water and to get a little exercise, you will be able to enhance the appearance of your skin as well as to begin to increase your moods. Exercise has been shown to not only improve blood flow to the skin, but also to encourage rapid cellular repair – this adds up to fewer wrinkles as well as more moisture in the skin itself.

Feeling depressed is something that everyone experiences at once point or another, but it doesn’t mean that you need to look unhealthy at the same time. You can do something about your depression and if you feel that you need more help, check with your doctor to see what options you have.

Skin Redness http://blog.skinxpert.com/skin-redness/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/skin-redness/#comments Fri, 21 Dec 2007 04:12:08 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/?p=141 Skin RednessWe all know how frustrating unwanted redness can be. Most often it is caused by acne, sunburn, capillaries, bad diet or effects of your recent cosmetic procedure. Usually redness is some kind of your body’s signal that is fighting inflammation and irritation so it is important to take a closer look into it.

    Skin Care Products
There’s lots of available products on the market that may reduce redness – La Roche Posay Rosaliac, however in some cases the only solution is to visit at the dermatologist office and use a combination of both, prescribed medication and topical treatment.

Light based treatments are effective for reducing persistent redness. Most common procedures are: Intense Pulsed Light and GentleWaves. Both treatments stimulate your skin’s natural rejuvenation process, leaving your skin soft and youthful.

What if I you have rosacea?
Well, rosacea is still one of the most difficult conditions to treat. Although there’s a number of available treatment options, there’s no cure. Medicine, skin care products or light based treatments can only reduce redness, but there no absolute cure.

Fighting Acne http://blog.skinxpert.com/fighting-acne/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/fighting-acne/#comments Mon, 22 Oct 2007 21:08:46 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/?p=115 “Fighting Acne” what a popular subject these days, however we would like to concentrate on two main ingredients used in many over-the-counter and prescription based products: Salicylic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide.

    Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl Peroxide in a antibacterial skin care agent that stops bacteria responsible for breakouts plus it dries up existing blemishes. Most popular concentration of this agent is ranging from 2.5% – 10%, products with higher concentration usually are prescription based. Very popular, yet effective skin care line using benzoyl peroxide is Proactiv Solution by Rodan & Fields.

    Salicylic Acid

Salicylic Acid has totally different effect, it speeds up cell turn over and slows down the cells shedding inside the follicle to prevent clogging. Salicylic Acid also reduces appearance of whiteheads and blackheads. It is available in concentrations ranging from 0.5 to 2%.

    For those with sensitive skin

When you try any kind of skin care product for the first time, please always rub small amount of product and leave it for some time to see if it doesn’t cause irritation.

Our comments: Look at your left hand during summer if you do a lot of driving, it’s always a bit more tanned. Other thing we are really glad FDA finally took a step to approve Anthelios sunscreens, we haven’t even heard one negative opinion about these absolutely the best sunscreens on the market.

Eyelid Surgery http://blog.skinxpert.com/eyelid-surgery/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/eyelid-surgery/#comments Sun, 19 Aug 2007 18:49:57 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/?p=98 The technical name for eyelid surgery is “Blepharopasty.” It is the cosmetic procedure designed to remove the fat deposits and excess skin that can accumulate with age around the eyes. As people age, they can start to notice bags to side, below, and above their eyes. This is due to the muscles weakening and fat accumulating. People who are starting to see signs of aging might look in the mirror and see puffy bags and/or dropping eyelids. These are not the same as crow’s feet or dark circles under the eyes. It’s more of a generally puffiness that results in a person looking tired and old.

Eyelid surgery is done for both the upper and lower eyelids, although not usually at the same time. The plastic surgeon might choose to work on one set, like the upper eyelids, and save the other set for another session. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. The plastic surgeon makes small incisions along the creases of the upper eyelid or right underneath the lashes on the lower eyelids. After the incisions are done, the plastic surgeon will remove excess fat and skin and then close the incisions with very fine sutures.

Recovery from surgery is usually two or three days, however, you won’t be able to use contact lenses for at least a couple of weeks. There can be bruising, redness for up to a couple weeks. As with any surgery, there can also be complications. You might end up with double or blurred vision for a few days. You might get some whiteheads that can be removed later. There might be some light scarring, but it can be hidden with makeup. It is said that some people may have trouble closing their eyes when they sleep. You will have to check with your plastic surgeon to see if further surgery can correct any issues which arise.

Laser Acne Treatment http://blog.skinxpert.com/laser-acne-treatment/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/laser-acne-treatment/#comments Tue, 14 Aug 2007 20:02:38 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/?p=97 Laser treatment for acne was mostly relegated to treating acne scars. However, there is new hope that lasers can also be used to treat active acne pustules in treatment using non-ablative laser treatments. These treatments were generally used to even out skin pigmentation and did not damage the skin’s surface layer, like the acne scar laser treatments; instead it uses light to stimulate collagen growth. The laser pulse works beneath the surface of the skin without producing injury to the outer layers.

Types of Lasers Chosen For Acne

There are many different types of lasers that can be used to treat acne. Copper vapor lasers, pulse dye lasers, and orange/red light lasers are a few that have been used to treat acne. These work by exposing the bacterium to light frequencies that trigger a production of a toxin that kills them.

Other types of laser work by creating a thermal injury to the sebaceous glands. These are InfraRed lasers known by such names as CoolTouch and SmoothBeam. The heat injury is underneath the skin and does not break the surface of the skin, leaving the patient with little visible effects of the treatment and not risking further infection.

    Repeated Treatments

The patient will have to be treated several times before the acne subsides. There are very few studies to prove the effectiveness of laser therapy on active acne, though empirical evidence is mounting. If you want to get these treatments, be sure you go to someone who has experience with multiple patients and might foresee any problems with your skin type.

For lasers that remove the top layer of the skin, people with darker skin tone are warned of the risk of skin lightening or darkening in the treated areas. The ablative lasers do not damage the top layers of the skin, so they may not have as a great a risk for people of darker skin tone. Be sure to check with your skin care professional about this issue if you are concerned about the effects of the treatment.

    Acne Scarring Laser Treatments

Unlike ablative laser treatments, laser treatments for scarring are done after the acne condition has subsided and the face has no recent outbreaks. The laser is used to remove the top layers of the skin and can cause a burning or itching sensation. It requires multiple treatments and can leave the face red for some time. The skin underneath is exposed which should be smoother and have a more even skin tone too. Most people feel only a mild stinging sensation when the procedure is being done, but you should make let your doctor know if the procedure is more painful.

Laser treatments for acne scarring are very well accepted in the dermatological field. It is a proven technique not only to remove acne scarring but also to reduce visible signs of aging on the face. It does produce a controlled skin injury and for that reason, it cannot be done with active pustules. However, it still remains a very viable method to reduce the aftereffects of acne scarring once the damage is done.

Browlift http://blog.skinxpert.com/browlift/ http://blog.skinxpert.com/browlift/#comments Mon, 13 Aug 2007 21:12:41 +0000 admin http://blog.skinxpert.com/?p=92 A browlift is also called a forehead lift. It is performed by making an incision on the top of the head, ideally behind the hairline to hide it, and pulling the skin taut to reduce the appearance of furrow on the forehead. It will also bring the upper eyelids up a bit, which is why it is referred to as a browlift. Some people do the endoscopic forehead lift, which minimizes the area that is cut. As with any surgery that relies on incisions, there is a period of time that must be spent healing. In this case the final redness, bruising, and swelling should disappear within three weeks to one month.

The procedure is normally done for patients that are middle-aged who are experiencing the furrowed lines on their forehead known as “worry lines.” The browlift can be done in conjunction with a facelift. This would provide a whole new look, rather than just affecting the forehead and brow area. This can be a lot of surgery to undergo, and complications from surgery need to be understood.

The possible complications from a browlift that is not correctly done are: the inability of the patient to raise or lower the eyebrows or even wrinkle the forehead, scarring around the incisions, hair loss around the incisions, lack of sensation near the incision area, infection, and bleeding.

No cosmetic surgery is permanent and will relax with age. Therefore, you may need additional surgeries, either to correct a complication, or later in life to renew the look. However, if properly done a browlift can add remove the most noticeable vestiges of aging like a wrinkled forehead and sagging brows. This can dramatically alter your appearance and best of all; it can be your little secret. Any incisions done, whether healed or not, should remain under the hairline and not visible to others.
